The "ATMA" of Divar Island is no more. As I was  about to post a Christmas greetings to my friends, I receive the awful news that one of the greatest Divarkar has passed away to a better place.. I deeply mourn the death of my dear friend of many years Atmaram Pilgaokar, a knowledgeable male nurse, a great tiatr director and an awesome human being. Pilgaonkar Atmaram was always willing to help anyone at anytime of the day or night and that to for free,  and has been doing it for the last 40 years. Only a few weeks ago he was garnering my help to save the Ruie medicinal plant which grows abundantly in Divar. My children Gemma Fernandes and Ashley Fernandes will always remember him with great fondness as he discovered them both and encouraged them wholeheartedly. My most Heartfelt condolences to his family and his many many patients on Divar Island.

My son Ashley Fernandes has always been interested in music from a very young age. So it was no surprise that he returned back to the UK to do a three year degree in Audio Engineering. As his final research paper he chose to work and find a alternative synthetic membrane for the Ghumot, so we can avoid killing the Monitor Lizard for its skin. In 1972 the Government of India placed it on the endangered list and banned its killing.
